Description

Choose from a rich supply of receptive, expressive, or pragmatic targets using these Picnic Fun cards. A SUPER benefit of this resource is the additional layer of organizing thoughts and language that is build into the activity.

This resource includes 5 pages of animal and food picture cards that allow you to teach language organization in a realistic and motivating way. Using pictures of animals and food to build a menu board BEFORE you bring out the puppets and play food helps clients slow down and think about what they want to say, and how they want to say it.

What you’ll get:

  • 5 pages in PDF format
  • 18 animal and 22 food cards to use in therapy

Here are just a few of the skills you can target:

Pragmatics

  • Eye contact
  • Working together
  • Symbolic play
  • Pointing and choosing
  • Role playing
  • Waiting for partner to reply

Folding and unfolding a picnic blanket with a partner, preparing and “eating” play food, puppet play, talking for puppets, and choosing what the puppets will eat are all ways to incorporate pragmatics into Picnic Fun.

Receptive and Expressive Language

  • Pronouns
  • Wh questions (both asking and answering)
  • Direct objects
  • Word recall
  • Temporal vocabulary  (first, last, next etc.)

Designating some of the puppets as boys and some as girls gives you the opportunity to target pronouns. Asking and answering “who” and “what” questions, completing sentences with direct objects, recalling the names of animals and food, describing how the food tastes, and deciding who gets their food first, next and last are all ways to teach the receptive and expressive skills listed above.

Picnic Fun works best when you laminate and velcro the cards. You will also need the following supplies:

Play food
Blanket
Assorted puppets and/or stuffed animals
A clipboard with two vertical parallel Velcro strips affixed to it

You probably already have the makings of a fantastic activity in your closet, and all you need to complete it are the Picnic Fun cards!
