If you’re looking for “end of the therapy journey” activities with articulation clients, look no further! Tweens and teens love to act like Youtube stars while explaining and demonstrating science experiments. As they review their videos with you, they make valuable discoveries about their speech, and realize where they can improve. Listen to our podcast “The Tipping Point” for more.

Find great experiments at https://sciencebob.com/

Supplies I keep in my science box (Although I’m providing some Amazon links, most will be less expensive if you buy locally):

20-volume hydrogen peroxide liquid, also called “clear developer.” It’s pricy on Amazon, but I have found it very affordable at beauty supply stores.
Regular hydrogen peroxide (3%)
Iodine 2% (this is iodine for wound care, not the food grade kind)
Laundry Starch
Vitamin C tablets
Vinegar
Borax (find in the laundry section)
School Glue
Baking soda
Dry yeast
Liquid dish washing soap
Food coloring, liquid preferred
Measuring cups and spoons
Funnel
Balloons
Empty 16 oz water bottle
Plastic cups and spoon

Other Episodes

If narrative language intervention is one of the pillars of your therapy, then you’re going to love what I have for you.
SLPs roles often overlap with other professions. While collaboration is highly desirable, sometimes roles overlap so much as to be almost indistinguishable.
We discuss the art of self-presentation,  the power of a well-told story,  and how to do networking interviews.
To mark the 100th episode, Dan (our business manager) interviews Denise about her favorite episodes, the beginnings of the podcast, and what the future holds for The Speech Umbrella.
